From a second chance to a mission for girls

My name is Rose Stuart, founder of Ufulu Girls Empowerment.

My journey began with a challenge that many girls still face today: poverty. Because my family could not afford my education, I was forced to stop going to school. Like many girls in similar circumstances, I was at risk of losing the opportunity to build a better future for myself.

Then something changed.

Through the Atsikana Paulendo Girls Project, I received a scholarship that gave me the opportunity to return to school and continue my education. That second chance changed my life. It showed me that when a girl is given the opportunity to learn, she can change not only her own future, but also the future of her family and community.

I decided that I wanted to give that opportunity to other girls.

That is why I founded Ufulu Girls Empowerment. Ufulu means freedom — and for us, education is an important pathway to freedom, independence and opportunity.

We support girls and young women who have lost their educational opportunities because of early pregnancy, early marriage or poverty. We believe that their circumstances should not determine the rest of their lives. Every girl deserves the chance to learn, to develop her talents, to believe in herself and to build an independent future.

Our work is about more than simply returning girls to school. We want to educate and empower them so that they can become confident, independent and productive members of society. By investing in girls today, we are helping to build stronger families, stronger communities and a better tomorrow.

Our Vision

Building a better tomorrow for girls.

Our Mission

To educate and empower girls who have lost their educational opportunities due to early pregnancies, early marriages and poverty, enabling them to become independent, confident and productive members of society.

My own experience taught me the power of a second chance. Through Ufulu Girls Empowerment, I want to make sure that more girls receive that chance — because every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, dream and shape her own future.
